How can I change lyrics to make a song more appropriate for a performance? I'm performing Baby Grand by Billy Joel at my school's talent show next month, but I need to change some lyrics to make it more school-appropriate. The original is as follows:Now I'm home And I'm weary In my bones Every dreary one night stand But baby grand Came home with me Any suggestions to change the one-night-stand line would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Use a writing program like Microsoft office word or any other and fix the lyrics with it, print it out, practice singing it. Your all set! Ever Dreary one man band its really hard to change billy joel. i almost think changing his lyrics is more inappropriate than leaving them. esp cuz a 1night stand isnt that explicit. Now Im homeAnd Im wearyON the PHONEI dont want to talkBut baby loveCalled mei dont know! If you must change the lyrics (which are totally appropriate) change stand to gig (though it will not rhyme if you do).The one night stand line refers to performing on tour, not sex.
Is it acceptable to change lyrics while covering a song? I'm looking to sing Baby Grand by Billy Joel for my school's talent show, but I would have to change several lyrics to make it more appropriate.is it acceptable to tweak the artist's original lyrics or should I pick another song? it should be finesome band covered a pink floyd song (can't remember what.welcome to the machine?) and changed the lyrics to it.the point of covering music is to make it your own song. Its a talent show for school. show your talent. you can just mention before you sing it that you tweeked it a lil. :) I would say no because if it is a cover you are doing a copy of the original artists song. It would be like you writing a book and someone changed some words and resold the book. It is just changing it up which shouldn't be done in order to keep the song alive. I would recommend changing the song. If the song isn't appropriate and you're not willing to risk singing the uncensored version of the song, then it would save a lot of trouble and moral dilemma by choosing a different song.
billy joel? i love billy joel. anyone else? whats your favorite song of his? i like scenes from an italian restaurant, only the good die young and baby grand! The freaky part of this question is that I'm listening to him right now on my computer. I saw him in Vegas with Elton John and he was 1000 times better. Best song: While the Night is Still YoungNo Mans LandModern WomanPiano Man.the best ever.Nice to see someone on here write about a good singer for a change. We didnt start the fire I like some of his stuff. I most like: We Didn't Start the Fire, Movin' Out, The Downeaster "Alexa", and Piano Man. Goodnight Saigon. It's a very moving tribute song to those that faught and died in Vietnam. I also really like the song Pressure (really cool video for that one). Billy Joel is one of my favorite singers. I saw him w/Elton John a few years back here in Boston. The show was the best ever!My favorite Billy Joel songs are. She's Always A WomanHonestyI Go To ExtremesAllentownPressure We didn't start the fire is my favorite.First I heard was Piano man.Leningrad and The River of Dreams are very good, too. Here are a few hidden gems:Miami 2017 - When the city of New York was essentially bankrupt (early 80s?) and there were all sorts of dire prections as to its future, he fast-forwarded to the year 2017 and wrote this song as if he were retired in Florida remembering the end of New York City. Downeaster Alexa - The tough life of blue collar fisherman on the upper east coast. Similar theme is the song Allentown about the life of Penn factor workers after plant closure.Sleeping With The Television On. Contains one of my all time favorite lines, "I really wish I were less of a thinking man and more a fool who's not afraid of rejection". An of course.Only The Good Die Young, Baby Grand, New York State of Mind and Scenes From An Italian Restaurant. Many people probably have only heard his Top-40 stuff, but his best music was the more obscure stuff that wasn't about the old worn-out song themes (love, teenage aingst, somebody done me wrong, etc). He was able to write interesting songs about everyday life, current events, and what was going on around him. I think at the core of his being he is just an average Joe, as opposed to the more typical self-absorbed, egomaniac rock star.
